I was born here in San Diego in 1989 and have lived here my whole life. Fortunately, I was born into a very strong Christian family. We were members of a church which my grandfather founded and pastored for 30 years; My dad took over about 6 years ago.

When I was 12 years old my Dad shared some things with me that I had known all my life but was just beginning to understand. He had warned me that there would come a time when I would be tempted to do things that I knew were wrong and that I would do them anyway.  He told that at this point, God, who is perfectly just, would separate himself from me and I would be on my way to a place of eternal punishment called hell.

When this happened I was strongly convicted of my sin and it was at this point that I repented (turned from sin) and placed my faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.  I am so grateful that God Almighty came down to earth 2000 years ago in the person of Jesus Christ and died in my place. He was the only one who could pay the price for my sin and because he did, I’m now on my way to heaven!

I look at my guitar playing as a way to honor the God who gave me my life, my talent, and my salvation. I play lots of hymns and originals. My style is heavily influenced by the great Chet Atkins whom I’ve been listening to my entire life. Chet was without a doubt one of the most amazing guitarists of all time. He was probably the most influential guitarist to have ever lived.  He helped develop the style of guitar where one plays the bass, rhythm, melody, and harmony all at the same time using the thumb and fingers.  This style is what allows me to play completely solo, without the assistance of a band.

I enjoy writing songs, arranging songs, and learning songs that some of the great fingerstyle guitarists play. I was born with very large hands which have actually been pretty handy with my guitar playing.  I always work to provide a wholesome atmosphere in my concerts. I like to put on a show that is good, clean fun for the whole family. You will never hear any offensive language, jokes, or music in my show.

I’ve still got a lot of work to do in my playing. The learning process is never ending. Every time you think you’re really getting somewhere, you meet someone who inspires you to work even harder. Playing guitar is a lot of fun, and I’m thankful to the Lord for the talents and opportunities he’s given me.

For all the guitar players out there, I play a Maton ebg 808. It’s the basically the same guitar that the great Tommy Emmanuel plays. It’s a small body guitar with a very smooth action and balanced tone. The most impressive thing about it however is the Ap5 pickup system. It really produces an awesome acoustic sound – when it’s adjusted properly, it’s the best I’ve heard yet.  As Tommy says, “Plug this little guitar into anything and it makes a big, beautiful sound.”

I hope you guys enjoyed this abridged version of my life. I hope to meet you all some day and maybe even see you at a concert. Please keep checking back on the website, and keep an eye out for my upcoming CD.

God Bless,

Ben
